NAACP Branch 3053 Young Adults Committee

Latest News: In May 2019, the Young Adults Committee hosted a community job fair (inviting local
residents, including residents returning to the community from incarceration) to connect to gainful employment. We helped 50 individuals connect to a dozen employers who offered over 100 jobs including an entrepreneurial opportunity to start their own business. Jesseca Chatman, then-committee chair, appeared on local TV to promote the job fair. See her WRTV-6 interview here

Mission

To secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.

 

The Greater Indianapolis NAACP Branch 3053 Young Adults Committee (YAC) welcomes adults age 21-40.

 

The YAC educates, stimulates and mobilizes young adults in the fight for social justice in Indianapolis. 

 

Goal

To host educational forums, community service projects, and social events to actively recruit young adult NAACP members  in the Indianapolis area.

 

The YAC will: 

  • Work on the 6 NAACP Game Changers (Economic Sustainability, Health, Education, Public Safety & Criminal Justice, Voting Rights & Political Representation, and Expanding Youth & Young Adult Engagement) to support the NAACP committee activities

  • Create a mentorship program to assist the Youth & College Division and Youth Council 

  • Train advocates and recruit new members

  • Connect to leadership and advocacy training 

  • Network and socialize

The national NAACP is encouraging young adults (21-40) interested in leadership development to apply to the NAACP Next Generation "NEXTGEN" Young Profession Leadership program​.
