Indianapolis, IN — December 12, 2025 — The Greater Indianapolis NAACP Branch #3053, Michigan City NAACP Branch #3061-B, Jeffersonville/Clark County IN NAACP Branch #3054, Greater Terre Haute NAACP Branch #3068, Evansville NAACP Branch #3048-B, and Gary NAACP Branch #3050 released the following joint statement in response to the Senate rejecting mid-cycle redistricting:
“We offer our deepest gratitude to the legislators on both sides of the aisle who voted down HB 1032 for their steadfast commitment and principled stance. Their resolve to uphold what is just and beneficial for the people of Indiana reflects the very best of our shared values. Their leadership, courage, and moral clarity have not gone unnoticed. They rose to the occasion when it mattered most, and their actions affirm a dedication not only to good governance but to the wellbeing of every Hoosier.
We also congratulate the members of our communities and all Hoosiers who called, wrote letters, attended listening sessions and rallies, and testified on this important issue. Their willingness to stand together, to act with integrity, and to speak with conviction demonstrates the power of a community united by purpose. It is in these moments that the character of our state shines most clearly.
These efforts strengthen our communities, our state, and the principles we hold dear. These six NAACP Branches invite the public to continue this work into 2026, whether it is registering voters, volunteering, or advocating for issues affecting Indiana, like rising living costs, healthcare access, education challenges, and economic uncertainty. We have seen that our combined efforts can have an impact. Let us move forward with resolve into the new year, working together to improve our state and our country.”
